The Mercury Mentor Program is for beginning sailors ages 5-7 years old who want to get acquainted with the water! Mercury Mentors takes place during the Summer, Fall and Spring programs, so this is a real year-round program. We have a full array of curriculum which starts with water awareness and swim testing, safety and most importantly sailing and fun sailing games! The Mercury Mentor program uses LYC provided Mercury sailboats that fit multiple young sailors along with an instructor while they sail in the Stranahan River basin right in front of LYC! This is meant to be a stress-free environment that helps young sailors feel safe on the water leading into a life of watersport activities.
Mercury Mentors is structured to be the lead-in to the Opti Green Fleet when the sailors begin to sail on their own, learn the rules of the waterway and eventually head to regattas!
Mercury Mentors 2023 Fall Program takes place on Sundays from 9AM-12PM starting September 17th and ends December 3rd. There is no Mercury Mentors on Thanksgiving weekend. There may be one or two days during the season when coaches need to attend high school regattas.
Summer Camp also has Mercury Mentors during all four sessions from 9AM-1PM Monday-Friday!
